OISC publishes its Annual Report

21/07/2010

The Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner (OISC) has today (July 21) published its Annual Report for 2009/10. The Report shows that during the year the OISC completed over 130 criminal investigations into illegal activity, and successfully prosecuted over 25 cases. This is the highest number of prosecutions ever recorded by the OISC in a single year.

The Immigration Services Commissioner investigates complaints about immigration advisers, both regulated and unregulated.  During 2009/10 the OISC investigated over 575 complaints, the largest number investigated in any one year.

As of 31 March 2010 there were over 3,875 advisers and just under1,750 organisations in the regulatory scheme.

The Immigration Services Commissioner, Suzanne McCarthy, said: OISC immigration advisers must prove they are fit and competent before they are accepted into the regulatory scheme and remain fit and competent to remain in the scheme.  The giving of good immigration advice is in everyones interest.

The Annual Report is available on the OISCs website, www.oisc.gov.uk, from 14:00, Wednesday, July 21.
